GAMBLE BUILDING. This building, variously known as the Gamble, Wells Fargo, or Iron Door building, was built between 1848 and 1852 and was once the southernmost branch of the Hudson Bay Company of Canada. It includes a small jail cell. It is very little changed from its original construction. Hwy 120, Big Oak Flat.

GROVELAND YOSEMITE GATEWAY MUSEUM. Museum has exhibits on native plants, stitching, the Hetch Hetchy railroad, Indian baskets, old bottles, historical fishing. HISTORICAL MARKER BIG OAK FLAT. Historical marker for Big Oak Flat, next to Kwik-Serv. Marker reads: Mark Twain Bret Harte Trail. Big Oak Flat. First called Savage Diggings after man who discovered gold here in 1848. Renamed Big Oak Flat about 1850 after giant oak tree that stood in center of town near this spot... Rich placer and lode mines reported to have yielded $28 million during heydey. Hwy 120, Big Oak Flat.
HISTORICAL MARKER GROVELAND. Plaque reads: "Formerly called First Garrote traced to hanging of Mexican for stealing horse... Gold discovered here 1849. Thousands in placer gold taken from mines on Garrote Creek, Big Creek and other diggings...". Main St (Hwy 120), Groveland.
HISTORICAL MARKER SECOND GARROTTE. Settled in 1849 by miners who found a rich source of placer gold. Hangman's tree next to marker used to hang lawbreakers, with the practice giving Second Garrotte its name. Old Hwy 120, Second Garrotte.

ODDFELLOWS HALL. Historic building, built in 1853, when this fraternal order was very important in its member's lives. Hwy 120, Big Oak Flat.
TANNAHILL HOME. Historic residence, built in 1858. James Tannahill was a merchant who came to Groveland during the Gold Rush. The building is in neoclassical. The "human" figures waving in front of the house are wooden cutouts. (Private home--please do not disturb residents).
